Description
Edge of the city: If you need a job Charlie Malik can find a spot for you in the dockside railyards. All he needs in return is that you show up on time, work hard, and kick back part of your pay. Two New York City longshoremen, Axel Nordmann, an Army deserter, and Tommy Tyler, an easy-going freight car loader, join forces against a corrupt New York waterfront union official. The two share a bond that cuts across society's black/white divide. A patch of blue: Selena D'Arcy is accidentally blinded by her prostitute mother, Rose-Ann, at the age of five. For the next 13 years she is confined in the tiny Los Angeles apartment that they share with her grandfather. One afternoon at the local park, Selena meets Gordon Ralfe, an office worker whose kind treatment of her results in her falling in love with him, unaware that he is black. They continue to meet in the park every afternoon and he teaches her how to get along in the city. But when Rose-Ann learns of their relationship, she forbids Selena from having anything more to do with him. Selena continues to meet Gordon despite Rose-Ann's fury. Something of value: In the British East Africa country of Kenya, former childhood playmates Peter McKenzie and Kimani have maintained their deep friendship, even though they have a difference in race, class and tradition. Then the bloody Mau Mau spread violence and terror in an effort to sweep the British from the land, the uprising destroys their magnificent homeland. The men discover that even the strongest bond may be stronger than the beat of the drums or the crack of rifles and the cry for freedom. A warm December: Dr. Matt Younger and his daughter have arrived in London for a month long visit. They are there for dirt-bike racing competition and unexpectedly, the widowed Dr. Younger begins a new romance. His new love interest is the beautiful and playful Catherine who seems to enjoy eluding Dr. Younger as much as she enjoys eluding the mysterious men who are following her. Their romance develops gradually and Dr. Younger begins to understand what is going on with this charming woman and the complications she brings with her.
